More than 5,500 outdoor enthusiasts will descend upon Hocking Hills State Park to enjoy the rugged terrain and gorgeous scenery offered along the six-mile route of the 58th Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike. With late-January temperatures traditionally in the 20’s, winter hikers will long for an afternoon cozied up by the fire in the comfort of a Cut Above Cabins rental.

Warm Up After Winter Hike

After that long trek through the woods, warm your feet by the flames, or soak your cold and weary bones in a tub of steamy bubbles in your cabin’s private hot tub. Enjoy the afternoon cozy and warm admiring the outdoors through floor-to-ceiling window walls.

Be on the lookout for wildlife including deer, wild turkey, and even black bears.

Warm and fuzzy blankets, thick towels, kitchen appliances, and accommodations for families with toddlers and infants. We have everything to meet your needs and strive to provide all the comforts of with added luxury and splendor.

Hike Details

The 58th Annual Winter Hike will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023. It starts at Hocking Hills State Park, just about a five-minute drive from Frontier Cabin, Summit Lodge and Big Pine Lodge. Our lakeside cabins are about a 30-minute drive to the park. Traditional fare of bean soup will be served at the end of the two- to three-hour hike.

Pre-hike activities will take place Friday, January 20th at 7 p.m., just a few hours after you have settled in your cabin – the perfect spot for a winter weekend getaway.

Safety First

This is a difficult hike up and down steep hills. If you are unfit, this is not the hike for you. This year’s hikers will enjoy improvements made to trails, walkways, bridges, and the new staircase descending into Cedar Falls.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pack for the Winter Hike?

Layered clothing and comfortable, sturdy shoes are best when hiking up and down the terrain of Hocking Hills State Park. Temperatures can range from 37 degrees to 17 degrees Fahrenheit or more depending on the weather. Hat, gloves, scarves, and heavy socks are recommended.

What is the cost for the Winter Hike?

There is no cost to participate in the 58th Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike, or pre-hike events. Donations are accepted for refreshments and transportation to Old Man’s Cave. Souvenirs are available for purchase. 

What time can I check into my Cut Above Cabins rental?

Check in is at 4 p.m.  Check out time is 10 a.m.
