Our Gardens & Galleries
Luxury Cabins in Hocking Hills
Prairie & Butterfly Garden
Each cabin and villa is surrounded by beautiful gardens that warmly welcome our guests and enhance their experience with a touch of natural beauty. Each summer, we strive to enrich the landscaping further, as it is a true passion of ours. Our dedicated housekeepers and maintenance staff have also joined in this endeavor, finding joy in contributing to this monumental task.
Sculptures
Throughout the property, clay sculptures grace the gardens, seamlessly blending with the natural landscape and created by talented local artists. Clay is particularly fitting for the Hocking Hills, as Logan has had a clay manufacturing plant producing bricks, tiles, and other clay items for over 150 years. Most of the sculptures are crafted by the talented Megan Anzalone, while others come from Bobbi Bishop, a local benefactor and creator of the Bishop Gardens and Educational Center, who also sponsors the annual Lilyfest held every July. Additionally, a few pieces by my personal friend and artist, Jenny Beard, can be found among the collection.
As you explore the grounds of the Lake Logan properties, you’ll encounter over 50 stunning clay sculptures, along with several granite sculptures by local artist Bill Boone, thoughtfully installed throughout the various gardens. Each piece adds a unique artistic touch, enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings. The landscape transitions gracefully from meticulously manicured areas to more woodland-themed spaces, inviting you to experience a harmonious blend of refinement and wild beauty. This variety not only enriches your visit but also creates a tranquil atmosphere where art and nature converge, inspiring moments of reflection and appreciation at every turn.
In addition to the captivating sculptures, Megan Anzalone also crafts our signature hand-thrown mugs and tea cups, each a unique work of art in its own right. When visiting, be sure to take one or two of these exquisite pieces home with you. They not only serve as beautiful additions to your collection but also allow you to bring a piece of the Hocking Hills experience into your everyday life, making each sip of coffee or tea a reminder of your time spent amidst nature and artistry.

More about Megan Anzalone
by the artist herself.....
“I am fascinated by what inspires artists, and how that inspiration influences their art. Just as the development of a child results from both nature and nurture, so too the development of an artist results from both environment (nature) and life experience (nurture).
One piece of the “environment” that has shaped my development as an artist is, quite simply, my geography. Because I live in Logan, I have had the unique opportunity since 2008 to work with clay pipe from Logan Clay Foundry.
Since an artist often creates from nothing, to begin a sculpture with a pipe is an unexpected variation in process. This ability to start with sturdy height transformed the way I create sculptures.
My sculptural pieces explore the relationship between the organic beginnings of the clay giving way to the machine-made extruded pipe, which is in turn stretched, bent, and transformed back into an organic form. The outdoor theme of my pieces harkens back to the outdoor nature of the clay body.
My “life experience” teaching ceramics at Logan High School has led me to seek out hand built ceramics that are appealing and accessible to high school artists. Through this exploration, I have discovered a love for the endless possibilities of hand built ceramics for both their varied textures and their altered irregular forms.
I am grateful for both the “nature” and the “nurture” of my journey as an artist. It is through these influences that I have been able to develop in unanticipated but enjoyable ways.” ~ Megan Anzalone
The Bud Schrader Gallery
Bud, born and raised in Hocking County, Ohio, developed a passion for photography early in life. His journey began when his mother gifted him a 35 mm Minolta and encouraged him to learn how to use it. Little did she know that this simple request would spark a lifelong love affair with photography. While Bud primarily focuses on capturing the scenic beauty of Hocking Hills and Lake Logan, he also observes the captivating moments that often go unnoticed during his travels. Recently, he has deepened his interest in photographing older structures – barns, churches, schools, and covered bridges – believing it is essential to preserve our history and honor the generations that came before us. His scenic gallery showcases the beauty that exists even in these nostalgic buildings, which symbolize our heritage.
Bud infuses the same passion into his portrait photography, constantly seeking unique elements that make each session special. His goal is to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, allowing you to capture stunning family memories and portraits during your time in Hocking Hills.
Bud’s expertise has grown alongside his craft, using a professional Nikon DSLR and upgraded equipment to capture exceptional images. For family portraits or personalized sessions during your stay, please contact him directly to schedule an unforgettable photography experience. hockinghillsphotographer.com
While Bud’s passion has been photographing scenic views of the Hocking Hills and Lake Logan, anywhere he travels he catches scenes that most are too busy to see. Recently, his love of photographing older structures such as barns, churches, schools, and covered bridges has grown. To him, it’s a way to preserve our history and pay tribute to the lives that were lived there and the generations that followed. As you can see in viewing his scenic gallery, there is beauty everywhere, even in the older structures that represent our heritage.
We are always evolving, continually updating our décor to enhance the experience of our guests. Summit Lodge, Frontier Cabin, and Big Pine Lodge feature an extensive collection of artwork adorning their walls, adding to the enjoyment of our visitors. Additionally, several pieces by local artist Bud Schrader are displayed at Bella Casa and Avalon Villa. Bud Schrader has also allowed us to use many of his photograph on our website.
